The Playground

An old wooden playground stood in a base of sand.  Cement footings were exposed, splinters in little hands were common, fall zones  were not compliant with current safety codes and many parents drove across town in search of safe play spaces for their children.

The Conservancy joined hands with the Grant Park Parent Network, HGOR (architects), John H. and Wilhemina D. Harland Charitable Foundation, !KABOOM!, and the Home Depot and the City of Atlanta to bring a safe, fun, state of the art playground to Grant Park. Once installed, news of the playground traveled to all parts of the city.  Now, instead of parents driving across town to find a place for kids to play, parents from across Atlanta come to Grant Park with their kids to enjoy a first class play experience.

In 2006, spring rockers were added to expand the experience for todlers.  In 2008, a new climbing wall was installed.

Plans call for more seating, additional landscaping and lighting.
